Early voting by mail starts tomorrow; now is the time to make your plan so you’re ready to vote.

A note on returning your ballot: The Trump administration has been pushing new USPS rules that critics, including the NAACP, say amount to an attempt to weaponize the Postal Service and interfere with mail voting. Courts have blocked the most severe version of this rule for now, but the legal fight is ongoing, and a separate USPS postmarking policy remains in place that voting rights advocates worry could still cause mail ballots to be rejected or delayed.

Given this uncertainty, we strongly encourage you to return your absentee ballot in person rather than by mail. Ramsey County allows voters to drop off their completed absentee ballot at any in-person absentee voting location during the absentee voting period, regardless of your home address. This ensures an election judge verifies and secures your ballot right away, rather than relying on mail delivery.

How to return your ballot in person:

• Visit any Ramsey County in-person absentee voting location; you don’t have to go to the one nearest your home. You can find those locations here.
• Bring your ballot inside the building. An election judge will verify that your voter information is complete before the county retains your ballot.
• Do NOT place your ballot in a document drop box or payment box; it will not be counted.

Are you eligible to vote?

You’re eligible if you’re a U.S. citizen, at least 18 by Election Day, have lived in Minnesota for 20 days, are not currently incarcerated for a felony conviction, and are not under a court order revoking your voting rights.

Not registered yet?

You have options:

• Register online at mnvotes.gov/register (if you have a Minnesota driver’s license, state, or tribal ID with your current address)
• Download a registration form at mnvotes.gov and mail it to the Ramsey County Elections office.
• Register in person when you vote; bring an ID (even an expired license, state ID, passport, or school ID works) plus a bill dated within 30 days of the election (phone, TV, internet, utilities, bank, credit card, mortgage, or lease)
